Family creators

Japan works well for family creators because it is safe, clean and easy to move around, and because children respond to things like Nara's deer and a first view of Fuji. The programme hosts the creator; one companion is usually allowed on day tours if agreed, and extra family members' costs sit outside the programme.

Nara Park and Todai-ji, the Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi day, early Arashiyama before the crowds, and an Asakusa morning. Pace matters more than volume: one strong outing a day is better than three rushed ones.

  • Take care near the deer in Nara: they can bite or butt when they see food.
  • Blur other children's faces; privacy expectations in Japan are high.
